Extract Audio from an MP4 Video to MP3 (Free, Online, No Software)
Updated on 01/10/2026
A 30-minute video often weighs 500 MB to 2 GB. Its audio track alone, as MP3, weighs 30 to 60 MB. If you want to listen to a lecture again in the car, archive a course or email an interview, extracting the audio is the right move.
How to do it
- Open convert MP4 to MP3.
- Drop the video (up to 200 MB; for larger files, see below).
- Choose the quality: 128 kbps for a lecture or a course, 192 or 320 for a concert.
- Convert, then download. The video is never sent over the internet: everything happens in your browser.
Accepted video formats
MP4, MOV (iPhone), WebM, MKV, 3GP. The tool does not touch the picture: it reads the audio track and re-encodes it, which is fast even on a modest computer.
Videos larger than 200 MB
The 200 MB limit avoids exhausting the browser's memory on mobile. On a computer, you can also use VLC (Media › Convert) or FFmpeg from the command line: ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -vn -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k audio.mp3.
Copyright
Extracting the audio from a video you did not create may fall under private copying or fair use if it is for your personal use from a lawful source, depending on your country. Redistributing the file is not permitted.
